So, this project was time-consuming and very challenging for me. After finishing this project, I am more confident in problem-solving in rhino.
10 examples of surface design
( I put all the photos together so it would be easier to look at in rhino )
I decided early on that I wanted the design to have a pattern on each side so that when rotated and copied, the pattern will have different reflections in it.
Then I went into rhino and started out with basic shapes before using arrays.

I selected this shape because I really like the dimensional attributes that came with the design. Using different values, you can play with your eyes to make things appear either in the foreground or background
It took me a while with this shape, but I slowly found a pattern in the array tool to make it easier to edit.
The shape was inspired by the textures that weave between knitted sweaters.
I used the mirror tool to replicate the shape over the top of the other shape, then I used the array tool around the circle
Then I would take three of the shapes right next to each other to join them together and then trim the offset
Then I would take a section of that shape, split it, then delete everything that I arrayed earlier.
Then I would mirror those shapes again to create this diamond effect,
using the array Crv tool for the final time around the circle
I would repeat these steps until I got to the center half of the circle
The shape itself was inspired by the dream catcher in my representation of what a 2D digital dream catcher would look like.
The shape was also inspired by patterns on knitted sweaters
I started to build them all together and hatching
As I was hatching, I discovered a lot of issues with my design. I constantly got errors when applying color with hatching. I would select large amounts of designs and then the hatch just would not work because one shape was just a little bit off.
At this point, I realized that it would be easier to rebuild many of the shapes than repairing certain pieces
The hatching wouldn't work for certain parts of my design and I couldn't understand why until I went into perspective and realize that the design was not all on the same plane
It was smooth sailing after I fixed my mistake.
I really enjoyed how depending on the perspective different patterns are created.
