SURFACE DESIGN STUDY: LASER CUT

 

Converting my design to greyscale was a lot of work because there is a lot of intricate small details in my design. I wanted to make sure that they came through still in grayscale.


I used a lot of shades in my design


I also had a lot of weird issues come up where suddenly, I was not able to hatch.  I got a lot of errors of “self-intersecting loop was found no hatch”.  then I would investigate why there was this error, and then suddenly the error would disappear, and I could hatch again. Only after two hours of investigation without finding the actual error. so fun



I had to reconfigure my design so it would be laid out nicely onto the piece of wood, that I was going to laser cut into.  I found, re-hatching my design was Zen full (once the error went away). I just put on an audiobook and slowly worked at it. 

My layers and file was pretty organized so when it came to laser cutting, it went by very quickly

In the end, this project was pretty cool to work on.

  So, this project was time-consuming and very challenging for me. After finishing this project, I am more confident in problem-solving in rhino.  10 examples of surface design ( I put all the photos together so it would be easier to look at in rhino ) I decided early on that I wanted the design to have a pattern on each side so that when rotated and copied, the pattern will have different reflections in it.         Then I went into rhino and started out with basic shapes before using arrays.  I selected this shape because I really like the dimensional attributes that came with the design. Using different values, you can play with your eyes to make things appear either in the foreground or background It took me a while with this shape, but I slowly found a pattern in the array tool to make it easier to edit. 3D-PRINTED CHESS SET

  These are my  sketches everyone told me in the peer-to-peer to go with the indigenous one because it will be more challenging and unique. A lot of people help me come up with how to print the objects. like, putting some of the objects on its side to print to make it easy on me later. REVERSE ENGINEERED OBJECT

  In OBDF 210 the assignment this week is to choose objects we would like to reverse engineer. I think this project should be fun and challenging. I should be thoughtful When choosing an object because I will be staring at it for three weeks.  The first object I selected was a saltshaker that I "got" from my old job it has a mechanical top. I think it would be interesting to recreate because it does have a lot of character with these little details everywhere. I also think it would be fun to recreate the salt particles all over the shaker. The next object that I thought about reverse designing was a can opener. I think it's a good object to select because it's very easily recognizable. the opener has some character and will be easy to take apart.  the last object that I picked out was my first car's fob.
